Adult Classes

Classes offered range from entry level to advanced with the goal of acquiring knowledge of German, practicing and enhancing your one's existing knowledge.

The combined economies of Germany, Switzerland and Austria are a key driving force for science, business and culture in the European Union. Knowledge of German opens and enhances innumerable career opportunities in companies and public organizations active at the international level.

A1 (Beginner Level)

ONLINE

This class is intended for beginners and is designed for the competence level A1 on the CEFR scale (CEFR stands for Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Students will learn basic German grammar such as verb conjugation and adjective agreement and practice the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing with an emphasis upon correct oral an written expressions. We will work with the textbooks, supplementing with other materials as needed. By the end of the course students will be able to understand and use common, everyday expressions.

A2 (Intermediate Level)

ONLINE

This class is intended for beginners and is designed for the competence level A1.2 on the CEFR scale. It is designed for students who have already passed the previous A1 (A1.1) at the GSF or have acquired basic knowledge of German language elsewhere. The class focuses on advancing grammar, pronunciation, and conversational skills. The textbooks we use in class are written entirely in German and will complement the class instructions. By the end of this course students will not only have improved their German communication skills, but they will have acquired a deeper understanding of German grammar.

A3 (Advanced Level)

ONLINE

This class is intended for beginners and is designed for the competence level A2-B1 on the CEFR scale (advanced beginner through low intermediate). Students will review and solidify concepts learned in the A1 and A2 classes while exploring more advanced grammatical structures and deepening their knowledge of the German-speaking countries. The class will focus on oral expression and listening/reading comprehension and will be conducted primarily in German. We will work with the textbooks, supplementing with other materials as needed.

A4 (Advanced, Conversational)

ONLINE

This class concentrates on speaking fluency through current events discussions, videos, literature, and continuous review of grammatical structures. We are planning German classes directed to professionals in technology and business in order to improve their capabilities in interfacing with German speaking customers and colleagues.
